Building Information

Dykstra Hall houses 265 female, mostly first-year students. Along with Kollen Hall, Dykstra has the largest number of residential life staff to assist students with the transition into college life. It was built in 1967 and is named in the honor of Dr. John Dykstra.

Dykstra Hall is the only residence hall on campus set up in clusters, which are comprised of a fully furnished common living area surrounded by six to 10 private rooms. This arrangement makes it easy for first-year students to create close friendships that will last throughout their time at Hope and past graduation. Clusters are separated by bathrooms; each cluster has a mixture of double and triple rooms.

  • The average sized double room is 10’6" x 15', height: 9’6"; an average triple is: 22’7" x 10’8", Height: 8’2"

  • Cubby style storage made up of a shelving unit with space to hang clothes and a vanity with small drawers. Top shelf: 10.5"h x 23"w x 22"d, Bottom shelf: 12 3/4"h x 23"w, Closet: 65.5" tall and 23" wide, 23 in deep Inside Cubby Drawers: 21"x 19" Hanging Space from bar: 52" x 24" x 22.5" Note: Sizing differs based on double or triple occupancy

  • Extra long twin beds (80-inch mattress); 34" of space under bed when half lofted
  • One free-standing dresser per student with three drawers each,  size 30"h x 30"w x 24"d; Inside of drawers measure 26" x 22"; fits under half-lofted beds
  • Two Desks - 42" x 24"  
  • Two Desk chairs
  • Towel racks
  • Cubby style storage made up of a shelving unit with space to hang clothes and a vanity with small drawers (sizing differs based on double or triple occupancy)

Other rooms in Dykstra Hall include a laundry room, kitchen, computer lab, study areas and lounges.
