A summer at Hope College filled with activity-oriented theatre classes for young budding thespians will conclude with a new, two-week “Broadway Bootcamp” for grades 6-12 that will include presenting a full musical production.

Hope Repertory Theatre is presenting a dozen one- or two-week camps featuring a variety of themes between June 9 and Aug. 1 for children entering kindergarten through 12th grade.  Most of the camps wrap up with an opportunity for the students to perform or present their work for family and friends.

This year’s camps are:

For grades K-2:

Fractured Fairy Tales: Monday-Friday, June 9-13, 9 a.m.-noon;

Creative Drama: Monday-Thursday, June 30-July 3, 9 a.m.-noon;

Performing Arts: Monday-Friday, July 7-11, 9 a.m.-noon;

Performing Arts: Monday-Friday, July 14-18, 9 a.m.-noon.

For grades 3-5:

Improv: Monday-Wednesday, June 16-18, and Friday, June 20, 9 a.m.-noon;

Musical Theatre: Monday-Friday, June 23-27, 9 a.m.-noon;

Creative Drama: Monday-Thursday, June 30-July 3, 1-4:30 p.m.

Musical Theatre: Monday-Friday, July 7-11, 1-4:30 p.m.

For grades 6-8:

Improv: Monday-Wednesday, June 16-18, and Friday, June 20, 1-4:30 pm.;

Theatrical Design: Monday-Friday, June 23-27, 1-4:30 p.m.;

Playwriting: Monday-Friday, July 14-18, 1-4:30 p.m.;

Broadway Bootcamp: Monday-Friday, July 21-25, and Monday-Friday, July 28-Aug. 1, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Registration per participant is $140 for the camps that run four days, $175 for the camps that run five days and $600 for the two-week Broadway Bootcamp.

Broadway Bootcamp: Participants will work as an ensemble with Hope Rep teaching artists to rehearse and perform “Urinetown” by Greg Kotis, with daily activities including physical and vocal warm-ups, acting exercises, and movement and music rehearsals.

Creative Drama: Campers will act and work together in an ensemble with activities including physical and vocal warm-ups, drama games, rehearsals and crafts.

Fractured Fairy Tales: Participants will be given a theme at the top of the week and the opportunity to re-tell, create and perform their own take on a treasured tale.  Daily activities will include creative drama games, storytelling, arts and crafts, and ensemble work.

Improv: Performers will learn the art of quick thinking and adaptability through a variety of fun and interactive improvisation exercises and games.

Musical Theatre: Campers will sing, dance and act while learning theatre fundamentals through activities including physical and vocal warm-ups, drama games, rehearsals and crafts.

Performing Arts: Campers will act and work together in an ensemble to create a final performance inspired by Hope Repertory Theatre’s children’s show “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” with activities including physical and vocal warm-ups, drama games, rehearsals and crafts.

Playwriting: Campers will write their own dramatic plays, with daily activities including group warm-ups, writing exercises and ensemble building.

Theatrical Design: Campers will work with experienced theatre artists to learn about scenic, costume, props and lighting design as they brainstorm and share ideas, participate in hands-on design exercises and finalize their own designs around the week’s theme.
